Straw Quality
Artisan
The Artisan quality weave has anywhere from 14 to 17 āpuntosā (woven strands per linear inch). It is not woven as tight but possesses more weight and durability than the other qualities do. For the wearer who likes to get the most out of their hat.
Master
The Master quality Montecristi weave has anywhere from 18 to 21 āpuntosā (woven strands per linear inch). Suitable for non-strenuous occasions, it is much lighter, tighter, and precise while providing excellent sun protection.
Museum
The museum quality Montecristi boasts an incredible 22 to 32 āpuntosā (woven strands per linear inch) From $750 to $3,000. Using a process that takes up to 5 months, this Panama Hat by Worth & Worth has an exquisitely light feel ā perfect for relaxing by the Coast Campari and soda in hand. When straw feels like fine linen, a work of art.
Superfino
The Superfino is the highest quality weave. These Hats are truly rarer than rare. Our grade starts at 30 āpuntosā and can go as high as 60 āpuntosā. Montecristi Superfino are always recognizable by the trademark ridge in their centers, there remain today only a dozen weavers capable of making the finest straw hats in the World: The Montecristi Superfino. The Superfino are the lightest of all and the consistency of the weave. The āremateā (back weave) becomes almost invisible to the eye. Hold it to the light and it glows, seemingly translucent. Our Super Fino Montecristi starts at $5,000 to $25,000 for the rare treasures.
First, how would you wear your hat?
You will need to have a cloth tape measure handy and it helps if you have assistance from another person to ensure accuracy.
Do not pull the tape measure too tight or your hat will fit just as snug. Measure exactly how you like wearing your hats. Do not try to measure the inside of a hat, this never works. Itās much easier and accurate to measure your head or have assistance.
Measure for the Halo style:
With a cloth tape measure start at the center front of the forehead. Hold the tape firm, then pull around to the ear, at the angle desired above the ear. Continue under your occipital bone which is located in the back of your head, then back around following the same procedure ending at the starting point.
You will either have inches or centimeters depending on the type of tape measure used.
Measure for the Classic style:
With a cloth tape measure start at the center front of the forehead. Hold the tape firm, then pull around to the ear, at about an index finger above the ear. Continue over your occipital bone which is located in the back of your head, then back around following the same procedure ending at the starting point.
You will either have inches or centimeters depending on the type of tape measure used.

There is no such thing as an overall correct fit. Whatever feels right to you. It is entirely a matter of personal preference. A tighter-fitting hat stays on better for active people, windy settings, and those who like their hats to sit high on the head. A looser-fitting hat is more comfortable, sits lower and works well when wearing for an extended period of time (over 3 hours).
